Tire Pressure Monitor System REINITIALIZATION

CAUTION: Without initialization, tire pressure monitoring is inaccurate and may not be able to detect an unsafe tire pressure.

Initialisation is required so that the TPM ECU can learn the identity and position of the tire sensors, and the nominal pressures of the associated tires. Initialisation is invoked by pressing and holding the reset switch, with the ignition switch in position II and the engine off, until the SET TYRE PRESSURE (software version 9) or TYRE PRESSURE SET (software version 10) message appears in the instrument pack message centre (approximately 4 seconds). When the switch is first pressed, a series of asterisks appear in the message centre to confirm that the TPM ECU has received the switch input. The SET TYRE PRESSURE/ TYRE PRESSURE SET message goes off after approximately 16 seconds.

NOTE: The TPM reset switch is a non-latching push switch installed on the center console, below A/C control panel. The reset switch is used to initialize the TPM ECU. During initialization, the TPM ECU adopts the current tire pressures as the nominal pressures.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off.
  2. Depress and hold TPM button until "SET TYRE PRESSURE" message appears on the instrument cluster message center (approximately 4 seconds). The system is now initialized.
NOTE: Some vehicles may display a re-arranged message "TYRE PRESSURE SET". This also acknowledges that system is initialized.
  3. Initialization will be completed during the subsequent drive cycle(s) when vehicle is travelling at more than 2.5 mph (4 km/h). At lower speeds, initialization is suspended, then automatically continued when the speed goes above 2.5 mph (4 km/h) again. Initialization is a transparent process that takes from 15-30 minutes and is conducted while driving to reduce possibility of interference from outside RF transmission sources.
NOTE: If a new nominal pressure is outside the limits, TPM ECU aborts the initialization process and reverts to the previous nominal pressures for pressure monitoring. A "CHECK TYRE PRESSURE" message will also be displayed for 40 seconds at one minute intervals until a valid initialization is performed.
