Procedure G, Speed Sensor Circuit (Electronic-Controlled A/T)

  1. Speed Sensor:  Jack up front wheel. Check continuity between wiring harness side of speed sensor terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If no continuity exists, repair open circuit in wire harness between speed sensor terminal No. 5 (White/Black wire) and ground. Also check for faulty ground.
  2. Check speed sensor for proper operation. See SPEED SENSOR TEST under TESTING. If speed sensor is faulty, replace sensor and recheck cruise control system. If speed sensor is okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Check for 5-volt reference voltage between ECU terminal No. 10 and ground. See Figure. If voltage is correct, go to next step. If voltage is incorrect, power source or ECU is faulty. Recheck power source circuit. See PROCEDURE A, POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  4. Check for 5-volt reference voltage between wiring harness side of speed sensor terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Black wire) and ground. If voltage is correct, reconnect speed sensor and go to next step. If voltage is incorrect, repair short circuit in wire harness between speed sensor terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Black wire) and ECU terminal No. 10.
  5. Cruise Control ECU:  Disconnect ECU. While spinning front wheel, check voltage between wiring harness side of ECU terminal No. 10 and ground. See Figure. If voltage fluctuates repeatedly between zero (0) and at least 5 volts, replace faulty ECU and recheck cruise control system. If voltage does not exist or fluctuate as indicated, repair open circuit in wire harness between speed sensor terminal No. 6 (Light Green/Black wire) and ECU terminal No. 10. Also check for bad connection at speed sensor.
