System Operation Check
- Trouble shooting of a power window system complaint begins with verification of the customer problem. If problem occurs, go to step 3. If problem does not occur, go to next step.
- If problem does not occur, review conditions under which problem occurred for customer and try to duplicate those conditions. For example, if the problem occurs on rainy days or during high humidity conditions, sprinkle water onto vehicle and see if malfunction occurs. DO NOT sprinkle water directly into engine compartment or onto electronic components. Visually inspect for signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Inspect for blown fuses and damaged relays. Inspect for loose or corroded connections, damaged wiring harnesses and/or switches. Check for a broken or partially broken wire inside insulation, which could cause system malfunction but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. Ensure any aftermarket electronic equipment is properly installed. If fault is found, repair as necessary. If problem still cannot be created, go to next step.
- Check that there is no abnormality in the communication system by inspecting the communication function of the body multiplex communication system with a hand-held tester. If there are code outputs (ECU unconnected and the communication line abnormal), go to MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM - ES 300 article in COMMUNICATION DEVICES. If there are no code outputs (ECU unconnected and the communication line abnormal), go to the next step.
- Determine DTC, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table. Check a DTC and note it if a code is output. Delete the DTC. Check if the DTC will be output once again, when the problem symptom is simulated based on the noted code. When no code is output (symptom check and simulation is possible), go to the next step. When no code is output (symptom check and simulation not possible), go to step 7.
- Determine problem symptom, see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS table. If there are applicable symptoms, go to step 7. If there are no applicable symptoms, go to the next step.PROBLEM SYMPTOMS

See POWER DOOR LOCK MOTOR CIRCUIT (DRIVER DOOR) under SYSTEM TESTS under POWER DOOR LOCKS, TRUNK LID & FUEL DOOR RELEASE article in DOOR LOCKS & ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS. - Perform trouble shooting according to the problem symptom:
- Perform on-vehicle inspection. See POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM under FUNCTION TESTS.
- Perform pre-check. See PRE-CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Inspect with the hand-held tester (ECU data monitor) and inspect with the hand-held tester (active test).
- Inspect the terminals of ECU. See TERMINALS OF ECU under COMPONENT TESTS.
- After problem has been identified and repaired, confirm repairs. After repairs have been completed, confirm that problem has been eliminated. Operate system under same conditions recorded for original complaint. If problem is no longer present and no DTCs are present, repair has corrected problem. If problem is still present or DTCs are reset, further diagnosis and repair is required.
