Description & Operation: Starter
Model uses a compact and lightweight Planetary reduction-segment conductor motor (PS).
PS starters use a square wire coil. The shape of the wire allows the surface area to act as a commutator would in traditional round wire coil starters. Elimination of the traditional commutator lightens and shortens the starter.
Permanent magnets are used to fulfil the traditional role of a field coil. The permanent magnets are classified using two types, main magnets and interpolar magnets. The magnets are arranged alternately inside the yoke to increase magnetic flux and to shorten the length of the yoke.
Integration of square shaped conductors and permanent magnets, results in improvement of torque output, and shortening overall length.
