Section 246 (Intake Air Control System): Replacement: 2AZ-FE

  1. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT  ) 
  2. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BRACE CENTER (W/ PERFORMANCE ROD) 
  3. REMOVE ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 1 
    1. Remove the 2 nuts and engine cover.

  4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
    2. Disconnect the VSV connector.
    3. Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose No. 2.
    4. Disconnect the ventilation hose.
    5. Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose No. 1.
    6. Loosen the 2 air cleaner cap bolts.
    7. Lock the air cleaner hose clamp and remove the air cleaner cap together with the air cleaner hose.

  5. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Disconnect the ventilation hose No. 2.
    2. Disconnect the union to connector tube hose.

    3. Disconnect the throttle motor connector.
    4. Remove the wire harness from the wire harness clamp.
    5. Remove the fuel tube from the fuel pipe support.
    6. Disconnect the water by-pass hose No. 2
    7. Disconnect the water by-pass hose.

    8. In order to remove the intake manifold, Uniformly remove the 5 bolts and 2 nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
    9. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.

  6. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY 
    1. Disconnect the IAC valve connector.
    2. Remove the IAC valve and gasket from the cylinder head.
  7. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE ASSY 
    1. Install a new gasket and the IAC valve to the cylinder head.
    2. Connect the IAC valve connector.

  8. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD 
    1. Install a new gasket to the intake manifold.
    2. Install the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts. Uniformly tighten the bolts and nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 30 N.m (306 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf)

    3. Connect the water by-pass hose.
    4. Connect the water by-pass hose NO. 2
    5. Install the fuel tube to the fuel pipe support.
    6. Install the wire harness to the wire harness clamp.
    7. Connect the throttle motor connector.
    8. Connect the union to connector tube hose.
    9. Connect the ventilation hose No. 2.
  9. INSTALL AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSY 

    Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf) 

  10. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (See  COOLANT  ) 
  11. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  ) 
  12. INSTALL ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSY NO. 1 

    Torque: 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf) 

  13. INSTALL FRONT SUSPENSION UPPER BRACE CENTER (W/ PERFORMANCE ROD) 

    Torque: 80 N.m (815 kgf.cm, 59 ft.lbf)
