Starter Relay Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Locate and remove starter relay. Starter relay is marked "ST". Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between relay terminals No. 3 and 5 without battery voltage applied through terminals 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Ensure resistance is within specification. See STARTER RELAY CONDITIONS . If not as specified replace the relay. If as specified go to step  2.
  2. Check relay operation by applying battery voltage through terminals No. 1 and 2. See Fig 1. Measure resistance between terminals No. 3 and 5. Ensure resistance is within specification. See STARTER RELAY CONDITIONS . If relay does not test as indicated, replace relay. If as specified, install relay.
STARTER RELAY CONDITIONS

Ohmmeter Connection Resistance
Terminal 3 To 5 With No Battery Voltage Applied Through Terminal 1 & 2 10,000 Ohms Or More
Terminal 3 To 5 With Battery Voltage Applied Through Terminal 1 & 2 Less Than One Ohm.
