When using hand-held tester:

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lexus GS 430 and 2004 Lexus GS 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check speedometer value. 

    PREPARATION: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn ignition switch ON and hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the DATALIST mode on the hand-held tester.

    CHECK: 

    When driving the vehicle, check that parameter value of "Speedometer" changes on the screen of the hand held tester.

    NOTE:
    • Be sure to safely route all cables when driving with the tester connected to the vehicle (i.e., keep cables away from feet, pedals, steering wheel and shift lever).
    • 2 persons are required when test driving with the tester: 1 person to drive the vehicle, and 1 person to operate the tester.

    OK: 

    The speed displayed on the screen of the tester changes as the vehicle speed changes. 

    1. OK: Replace combination meter. 
    2. NG: Go to Next Step. 
  2. Check harness and connector between combination meter and ABS ECU (See  O/D DIRECT CLUTCH SPEED SENSOR  ). 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 

      Check speed sensor circuit and ABS ECU (See  PRE-CHECK  ,  PRE-CHECK  ).
