With Hand-Held Tester
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lexus RX 300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Connect hand-held tester to (DLC3). See Figure.
- Check that shift lever is at P. Turn steering wheel to straight ahead position.
- Start engine and check that VSC warning light flashes. If light does not flash, check VSC warning light circuit and Ts terminal circuit. See SYSTEM TESTING .
- If a new skid control ECU is installed, start engine and keep vehicle stationary on a flat surface for 3 seconds or more. This should set zero point calibration of yaw rate sensor.
- Turn steering wheel either left or right to full lock position and back to straight ahead position. This will check steering angle sensor.
- Shift lever to D and drive vehicle at approximately 3 MPH . Turn steering wheel either left or right 90° or more and continue until completing a 180° or more turn. Do not spin wheels. Stop vehicle and shift lever to P. Ensure VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
- If VSC buzzer sounds, sensor check is normal. If buzzer does not sound, check VSC buzzer circuit. Then do sensor check again. See TEST H: VSC BUZZER CIRCUIT under SYSTEM TESTING.
- If buzzer still won't sound, there is a malfunction in VSC sensor. Check DTC. If DTC is retrieved, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
