Power Steering Gear: Removal
CAUTION:
Remove the steering wheel assembly before the steering gear removal, because there is possibility of breaking of the spiral cable.
- Place front wheels facing straight ahead.
- Remove steering wheel pad. See step 3 under REMOVAL.
- Remove steering wheel. See step 4 under REMOVAL.
- Remove engine under cover.
- Remove the 9 bolts, 6 screws, 2 clips and engine under cover.
- Disconnect RH and LH tie rod ends. See REMOVAL under LOWER CONTROL ARM in SUSPENSION.
- Disconnect No. 3 intermediate shaft. See Figure.
- Disconnect pressure feed tube.
- Remove the union bolt and gasket, and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
- Disconnect return tube.
- Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the return tube.
- Remove PS gear assembly.
- Disconnect the PPS solenoid connector.
- Remove the 2 nuts and PS gear assembly.CAUTION: Do not damage the turn pressure tubes.
- Remove No. 3 intermediate shaft.
- Place matchmarks on the No. 3 intermediate shaft and control valve shaft.
- Remove the bolt and No. 3 intermediate shaft.
