Power Steering Gear: Removal

CAUTION: Remove the steering wheel assembly before the steering gear removal, because there is possibility of breaking of the spiral cable.
  1. Place front wheels facing straight ahead.
  2. Remove steering wheel pad. See step  3 under REMOVAL.
  3. Remove steering wheel. See step  4 under REMOVAL.
  4. Remove engine under cover.
    1. Remove the 9 bolts, 6 screws, 2 clips and engine under cover.
  5. Disconnect RH and LH tie rod ends. See REMOVAL under LOWER CONTROL ARM in SUSPENSION.
  6. Disconnect No. 3 intermediate shaft. See Figure.
  7. Disconnect pressure feed tube.
    1. Remove the union bolt and gasket, and disconnect the pressure feed tube.
  8. Disconnect return tube.
    1. Remove the union bolt and 2 gaskets, and disconnect the return tube.
  9. Remove PS gear assembly.
    1. Disconnect the PPS solenoid connector.
    2. Remove the 2 nuts and PS gear assembly.
      CAUTION: Do not damage the turn pressure tubes.
  10. Remove No. 3 intermediate shaft.
    1. Place matchmarks on the No. 3 intermediate shaft and control valve shaft.

    2. Remove the bolt and No. 3 intermediate shaft.
