Power Tilt And Power Telescopic Steering Column: Installation

  1. Install steering pad switch modulator.
    1. Install the steering pad switch modulator with the 4 bolts.
  2. Install No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly.
    1. Align the matchmarks on the No. 2 intermediate shaft assembly and main shaft assembly.

    2. Install the bolt.
      1. Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
  3. Install spiral cable, combination switch and column upper cover.
    1. Install the spiral cable.
    2. Install the combination switch with the 2 screws.
    3. Install the column upper cover.
  4. Install steering column assembly.
    1. Install the intermediate shaft dust cover.
    2. Install the steering column assembly with the 4 column assembly set nuts.
      1. Torque: 25 N.m (260 kgf.cm, 19 ft.lbf)
    3. Install the return spring.
    4. Connect the No. 2 column hole cover sub-assembly.
    5. Torque the clamp.
    6. Connect the connectors.
  5. Install sliding yoke sub-assembly.
    1. Align the matchmarks on the sliding yoke sub-assembly and control valve shaft.
    2. Install the sliding yoke sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

      1. Torque: 35 N.m (360 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)
    3. Install the LH front fender apron with bolt and clip.
    4. Install the return spring.
    5. Tighten the clamp.
    6. Connect the No. 2 column hole cover.
    7. Connect the connectors.
  6. Install air sealed plate.
  7. With Smart Key system: connect steering lock switch and actuator.
    1. Connect the steering lock switch and actuator with the 3 bolts.
    2. Connect the connectors.
  8. Install no. 5 heater to register duct.
    1. Install the No. 5 heater to register duct with the clip.
  9. Install column lower cover.
    1. Install the column lower cover with the 3 screws.
  10. Install No. 1 safety pad.
    1. Connect the connectors and clamps.
    2. Install the No. 1 safety pad.
    3. Connect the engine hood release lever with the 2 screws.
  11. Install finish plate.
  12. Install No. 1 under cover.
    1. Connect the 2 connectors and DLC3.
    2. Install the No. 1 under cover with the 2 screws.
  13. Center spiral cable.
    1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
    2. Turn the cable counterclockwise by hand until it becomes harder to turn.
    3. Then rotate the cable clockwise about 2.5 turns to align the marks.
      NOTE: The cable will rotate about 2.5 turns to either left or right of the center.

  14. Install steering wheel.
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft assembly.
    2. Install the steering wheel set nut.
      1. Torque: 50 N.m (510 kgf.cm, 37 ft.lbf)
    3. Connect the connectors.
  15. Install steering wheel pad.
    CAUTION:
    • Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace with new ones.
    • Make sure the wheel pad is installed with the specified torque.
    • If the wheel pad has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects on the case or connector, replace the wheel pad with a new one.
    • When installing the wheel pad, take care that the wirings do not interfere with other parts and that they are not pinched between other parts.
    1. Connect the airbag connectors.
    2. Connect the connector.
    3. Install the steering wheel pad after confirming that the circumference groove of the torque screws is caught on the screw case.

    4. Using a torx socket wrench, torx the 2 screws.
      1. Torque: 8.8 N.m (90 kgf.cm, 78 in.lbf)
    5. Install the pad switch modulator cover steering wheel lower No. 2 cover.
  16. Check steering wheel center point.
  17. Inspect SRS warning light. See SRS WARNING LIGHT .
