Removal & Installation

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and then positive battery cable.
  2. Remove valve bank cover.
  3. Remove intake air connector.
  4. Disconnect necessary electrical connectors and hose from intake manifold for removal. See Fig 1.
  5. Remove necessary wires and wire brackets from intake manifold for removal.
  6. Remove intake manifold by removing 6 bolts and 4 nuts. Remove 2 gaskets.
  7. Remove starter assembly:
    1. Remove the starter mounting bolts and the starter.
    2. Disconnect the starter from the cylinder block.
    3. Disconnect the starter connector.
    4. Remove the terminal 30 nut and disconnect terminal 30 lead wire.
    5. Remove the bolt and disconnect the engine wire protector.
    6. Remove the starter.
  8. To install, reverse order of removal. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure NEW gaskets are used when needed.
