On-Vehicle Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota Sienna. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
- Discharge fuel system pressure. (See FUEL SYSTEM )
- Check that the battery voltage is above 12 V.
- Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Pull out the connector from a new fuel tube.
HINT:
Part No. 23801-20171
- Disconnect the fuel tube clamp from the fuel tube connector.
- Disconnect the fuel tube connector from the fuel pipe while pinching part A with fingers as shown in Fig 3.CAUTION:
- After taking the precautions, disconnect the fuel tube connector (quick type).
- As there is retained pressure in the fuel line, prevent it from splashing inside the vehicle compartment.
- Install SST (pressure gauge) using SST and a fuel tube connector as shown in Fig 4.
SST 09268-41047(95366-08070),09268-45014 (09268-41250, 09268-41200, 09268-41220)
- Wipe up any gasoline.
- Reconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Connect the hand-hand tester to the DLC3.
- Measure the fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm 2 , 44 to 50 psi)
If the pressure is high, replace the fuel pressure regulator. If the pressure is low, check the fuel hoses connections, the fuel pump, the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator.
- Disconnect the hand-held tester from the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
Fuel pressure: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/cm 2 , 44 to 50 psi)
- Stop the engine.
- Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.
Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (1.5 kgf/cm 2 , 21 psi)
If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, the pressure regulator and/or the injectors.
- After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and carefully remove SST and the fuel tube connector to prevent gasoline from splashing.
- Reconnect the fuel inlet tube (fuel tube connector).
CAUTION: After taking the precautions, connect the fuel tube connector (quick type). - CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND FUEL LEAK
- When using hand-held tester.
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON and hand-held tester main switch ON.NOTE: Do not start the engine.
- Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand-held tester. If you need a help to select the ACTIVE TEST mode, refer to the hand-held tester user's manual.
- When not using hand-held tester.
- Remove the circuit opening relay.
- Using a service wire, connect terminals FP and +B of the relay block.NOTE: Pay due attention to the terminal connecting position to avoid a malfunction.
- Turn the ignition switch ON and check that the fuel pump operates.
NOTE: Do not start the engine. - Check that there are no fuel leaks after doing maintenance anywhere on the fuel system.
- When using hand-held tester.
