Park/Neutral Position Switch

NOTE: For park/neutral position switch continuity test, see STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
  1. Inspect park/neutral position switch assembly:
    1. Apply parking brake and turn ignition switch to "ON".
    2. Depress brake pedal and check that engine starts only when shift lever is set in "N" or "P" position.
    3. Check that back-up light is lit and reverse warning buzzer sounds only when shift lever is set in "R" position.
    4. If operation is not as specified, check continuity of park/neutral position switch
  2. Adjust park/neutral position switch:
    1. Loosen park/neutral position switch retaining bolts. See Fig 1. Set transaxle control shift lever to "N" position.
    2. Align groove and neutral line. See Fig 2.
    3. Hold park/neutral position switch in position and tighten retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
