Checking Fluid Levels

CAUTION: Do not overfill transaxle.
NOTE: After extended driving at high speeds, in hot weather, in heavy traffic or pulling a trailer, wait until engine cools down (about 30 minutes) before checking fluid level.
    NOTE: If engine does not run or fluid has been replaced from a dry fill starting point, use COOL range on dipstick as a rough reference.
  1. Start and run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature of 158-176°F (70-80°C).
  2. Park vehicle on level surface.
  3. With engine idling and brake pedal depressed, shift lever into all positions from "P" to "L" and return to "P" position.
  4. Pull out dipstick and wipe it clean.
  5. Place dipstick back into filler pipe.
  6. Pull out dipstick and check that fluid level is in HOT range. See Fig 1. Add fluid if necessary. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS :
    1. Check fluid condition. If fluid smells burned or is Black, replace it. See DRAINING & REFILLING .
    2. Road test vehicle and recheck fluid level to verify it is at proper level.
