Without Hand-Held Tester

  1. Turn the steering wheel to the neutral position and turn the ignition switch OFF. Check that the shift lever position is at P.
  2. Using special tool (09843-18040), connect terminals Ts and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
  3. Start the engine and check that the VSC warning light blinks.
  4. Check the yaw rate sensor by shifting the shift lever to D and drive the vehicle at approximately 3 mph (5 km/h). Turn the steering wheel either left or right 90° or more, and maintain 180° circular drive. Do not spin the wheels. At the end of the turn, the direction of the vehicle should be within 175°-185° of start position.
  5. Stop the vehicle, shift to P and check that the VSC buzzer sounds for 3 seconds. If the VSC buzzer sounds, the sensor check is completed normally. If the VSC buzzer does not sound, check the VSC buzzer circuit. See SYSTEM TESTING . Perform the sensor check again.
  6. If the VSC buzzer still won't sound there is a malfunction in the VSC sensor. Check the DTC. See Figure.
  7. Check the steering angle sensor from the stationary condition by turning the steering wheel to either left or right to the full lock position. Then turn back to the neutral position.
  8. Using special tool (09843-18040), connect terminals Tc and CG of DLC3. See Figure.
  9. Read the number of blinks of the VSC warning light. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
  10. If every sensor is normal, there is a normal code output. If 2 or more malfunctions are indicated at the same time, the lowest numbered code will be displayed first.
  11. Disconnect the special tool and turn off the ignition switch.
