Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. Check ETCS fuse of engine room NO. 1 R/B 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the ETCS fuse from the engine room NO. 1 R/B

    CHECK: 

    Check the continuity of the ETCS.

    OK: 

    Continuity 

    1. NG: Check for short in all harness and components connected to ETCS fuse. 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  2. Check voltage between terminal BM of ECM connector and body ground 

    PREPARATION: 

    Remove the ECM hood (See ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ).

    CHECK: 

    Measure the voltage between terminal BM of the ECM connector and the body ground.

    OK: 

    Voltage: 9 to 14 V 

    1. OK: Check for intermittent problems (See  PRE-CHECK   ). 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  3. Check for open or short in harness or connector between battery and ETCS fuse, ETCS fuse and ECM. 
    1. NG: Repair or replace harness or connector. 
    2. OK: Check engine room NO.1 R/B.
