Checking Monitor Status

HINT:

The hand-held tester's MONITOR RESULT first monitors each component and system, and then display whether each is normal or malfunctioning.

  1. HOW TO READ MONITOR RESULT
    1. Connect the hand-held tester together with Controller Area Network Vehicle Interface Module (CAN VIM) to the DLC3.
    2. Enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS/ENHANCED OBD II/ MONITOR INFO/MONITOR RESULT.

The Test ID will appear at the beginning of each line, followed by INCMP, PASS, or FAIL.

      HINT:

      • INCMP: Stands for "incomplete". The monitor has not been done yet.
      • PASS: The component or system is operating normally.
      • FAIL: A malfunction has been detected.

    4. Press "HELP" for more information.

      HINT:

      • The results of the monitor test can be viewed by selecting MONITOR RESULT from the menu.
      • The results of the monitor test indicate the latest malfunction judgment of the diagnosis.
      • The TEST VALUE is the parameter value detected during the diagnosis.

(Example: P0128 Thermostat Malfunction = Engine coolant temperature at the time of malfunction judgement is made).

      • The TEST LIMIT indicates the malfunction threshold value.

(Example: P0128 Thermostat Malfunction = 75°C or more).

      • When the monitor runs, the TEST VALUE is recorded and compared to the TEST LIMIT to determine if the result PASS or FAIL.
      • By comparing the TEST VALUE and TEST LIMIT, the degree of failure can be determined.

      • In rare cases, the monitor result is PASS but a DTC is set and the MIL is illuminated. The monitor may have detected the malfunction on a previous trip and the passed on the most recent trip. An intermittent problem may be causing the DTC.
