Park/Neutral Position Switch

  1. Inspect park/neutral position switch assy:
    1. Apply parking brake and the turn ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. Depress brake pedal and check that the engine starts only when the shift lever is set in the N or P position, but does not start in other positions.
    3. Check that the back-up light comes on and the reverse warning buzzer sounds when the shift lever is set in the R position, but do not function in other positions. If a failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch for continuity. See DIAGNOSIS article.
  2. Adjust park/neutral position switch assy. See Fig 1:
    1. Loosen the bolt of the park/neutral position switch and move the shift lever to the "N" position.
    2. Align the groove and the neutral basic line.
    3. Hold the switch in position and tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    4. After adjustment, perform the Inspection described in step  1.
