Section 355 (Instrument Panel): Removal

  1. w/ CD Changer Built In The Audio System: 

    SHIP MODE SETTING 

    1. Take out all CDs.
      NOTE: If they cannot be taken out, do not attempt to take out forcibly. Send the unit for repair. 
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ACC as pressing the "SEEK UP" and "DISC" switches at the same time.

      HINT:

      When the ship mode is set, "SHIP" must be displayed.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to OFF, and disconnect the battery negative cable.
    NOTE: Connecting the battery negative cable automatically finishes the ship mode.

  2. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 
    1. Using a moulding remover, remove the instrument cluster finish panel.
    2. Disconnect the connector.

  3. REMOVE CENTER RESISTER 

    Using a moulding remover, remove the center resister.

  4. REMOVE RADIO WITH A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts.
    2. Disconnect the radio with A/C control assembly cable, and remove the radio with A/C control assembly and the connector.
  5. w/CD Changer Built In The Audio System: 

    SHIP MODE CONFIRMATION 

    Check that a metal can be seen from a hole marked" SHIP" on the back of the radio with A/C control assembly.

    NOTE: If metal part cannot be seen from a hole on the back of the air conditioner control assembly, repeat "SHIP MODE". 
  6. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATES 
  7. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIMS 
  8. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIMS 
  9. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the 2 assist grip plugs, then remove the 2 screws and the assist grip.

      HINT:

      Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Use the same manner described above to the other side.

    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the front pillar garnish.

      HINT:

      Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Use the same manner described above to the other side.
  10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD (See  STEERING WHEEL  ) 
  11. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL (See  STEERING WHEEL  )

  12. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 

    Using a screwdriver, remove the cluster finish panel, and disconnect the connector.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  13. REMOVE HOOD LOCK AND FUEL LID CONTROL CABLE LEVER 
    1. Remove the 2 screws and the hood lock control cable.
    2. Remove the 2 screws and the fuel lid control cable lever.

  14. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 PANEL 
    1. Remove the screw.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the lower No. 1 panel, then disconnect the connectors.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  15. REMOVE LH LOWER PANEL 

    Remove the 3 bolts and the LH lower panel.

  16. REMOVE COLUMN COVER 

    Remove the 3 screws and the column cover.

  17. REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the clamp.
    3. Remove the 4 screws and the combination switch.

  18. REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
    1. Disconnect the connector the, screw and the transceiver finish plate No. 1 assembly.
    2. Remove the screw and the No. 2 heater to register duct.

  19. REMOVE COMBINATION METER 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.

      HINT:

      The connectors can be disconnected by loosening the bolts.

    2. Remove the 4 screws.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the combination meter.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  20. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR 
    1. Remove the 2 screws.
    2. Remove the glove compartment door, then disconnect the glove compartment door damper clip.

  21. DISCONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR (See  AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS  ) 
    1. Using a screwdriver, remove the No. 1 under cover.

      HINT:

      Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

    2. Slide the airbag connector to pull out from the No. 1 under cover.
    3. Disconnect the airbag connector.
    NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag ware harness. 
  22. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 

    PANEL Remove the 3 screws and the lower No. 2 panel.

  23. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE PANEL 
    1. Remove the transfer shift lever knob.
    2. Using a screwdriver, remove the upper console panel.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  24. REMOVE CONSOLE REAR END PANEL 
    1. Remove the rear console cup holder box.
    2. Remove the 2 screws.
    3. Using a screwdriver, remove the console rear end panel.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  25. REMOVE REAR RADIO CONTROL PANEL 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the 3 screws and the rear radio control panel.

  26. w/o Disc Player Changer, LEXUS Link System: 

    REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX 

    Remove the 4 bolts, the 4 screws and the rear console box.

  27. w/Disc Player Changer: 

    REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX 

    Remove the 2 bolts, the 6 screws and the rear console box.

  28. w/LEXUS Link System: 

    REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX 

    Remove the 2 nuts, the 6 screws and the rear console box.

  29. REMOVE CENTER LOWER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL 

    Using a screwdriver, remove the center lower cluster finish panel, then disconnect the connectors.

    HINT:

    Tape up the screwdriver tip before use.

  30. REMOVE FRONT ASH RECEPTACLE RETAINER 
    1. Remove the front ash receptacle box.
    2. Remove the 2 screws and front ash receptacle panel.

  31. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE BOX AND CONSOLE BOX MOUNTING BRACKET NO. 4 

    Remove the 4 bolts, front console box and the console box mounting bracket No. 4.

  32. w/ Night View: 

    REMOVE NIGHT VIEW ECU 

    1. Remove the 3 bolts.
    2. Disconnect the connectors.
    3. Remove the night view ECU.

  33. w/Night View: 

    REMOVE NIGHT VIEW DISPLAY 

    1. Remove the 4 screws.
    2. Remove the night view display.
  34. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL 
    1. Disconnect the junction connectors.

      HINT:

      The connectors can be disconnected by loosening the bolts.

    2. Disconnect the connectors, then remove the 8 bolts, the 2 nuts and the instrument panel.
    3. Remove the screw and the transceiver finish plate No. 2 assembly.
  35. REMOVE ECM (See  ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)  ) 
  36. REMOVE NO. 3 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
  37. REMOVE NO. 4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
  38. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR DAMPER 
  39. REMOVE FLOOR BRACE 
  40. REMOVE NO. 1 BRACE 
  41. w/Night View: 

    REMOVE NIGHT VIEW BATTERY ECU Remove the 2 screws and the night view battery ECU.

  42. REMOVE REINFORCEMENT
