Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When the distance control ECU is replaced with a new one, initialization must be performed (See ADJUSTMENT  ).
  1. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the steering pad switch assembly.
    2. Fig 1: Identifying Distance Control Switch

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-4 (DIST) - A-6 (ECC) Distance control switch is ON Below 1Ω
      Distance control switch is OFF ) 10 kΩ or higher

    HINT :

    When a malfunction is detected in the distance control switch,replace the steering pad switch assembly.

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE 
    NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may cause airbag deployment. read the

    HINT:REMOVAL and INSTALLATION information.

    1. Remove the spiral cable.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      A-4-C13-11 Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the right Below 1 Ω
      A-6-C13-12 Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left Below 1 Ω
      Center
      2.5 rotations to the right
      Below 1 Ω

      HINT: The spiral cable makes a maximum of approximately 5 rotation.

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (DISTANCE CONTROL ECU- SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the distance control ECU connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-11 - D2-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
      D2-16 (MODE) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SPIRAL CABLE -BODY GROUND) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C13-2 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU 
    1. Remove the distance control ECU with the connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the valu(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION REFERENCE TABLE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D2-16(MODE) - Body Distance control switch ON 0 to 2 V
      D2-16(MODE) - Body Distance control switch ON 9 to 16 V

    NG: REPLACE DISTANCE CONTROL ECU 

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
