NOTE: When the distance control ECU and/or ECM are replaced with a new one, initialization must be performed (See INSTALLATION  ).
  1. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU
    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
A8-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch ON (pushed) 0 to 2 V
Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 to 14 V

    NG: Go to Next Step

  2. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU CIRCUIT
    1. Disconnect the A8 connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
A8-16 (MODE)-Body ground Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 1 Ω
Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

    2. Disconnect the d1 connector from the spiral cable.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
d1-4 (DIST) - d1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch ON (pushed) Below 2.5 Ω
d1-4 (DIST) - d1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch OFF (not pushed) 10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH  (See STEERING PAD SWITCH )

    OK: Go to Next Step

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - SPIRAL CABLE)
NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may cause airbag deployment. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT:

    1. Remove the spiral cable.
    2. Disconnect the A8 connector from the distance control ECU.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E30-11 (DIST) - A8-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
A8-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch off 10 kΩ or higher
Distance control switch on Below 1 Ω
