On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. CHECK BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY OPERATION 
    1. Pre-check preparation
      1. Move the shift lever to the P position. Apply the parking brake and connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      3. Turn on the intelligent tester. Select "MAS CYL PRESS 1", "MAS CYL PRESS 2", "FR W/C SENS", "FL W/C SENS" and "RR W/C SENS", "RL W/C SENS".
      4. Turn on the Techstream. Select "Voltage of Master Cylinder Sensor", "Voltage of Master Cylinder Sensor 2", "FR Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor", "FL Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor" and "RR Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor", "RL Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor".
    2. Intelligent tester:
      1. Check the FR system solenoid (SLAFR CUR, SLRFR CUR, SMC1, SMC2).
        • Select "SLAFR CUR". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
    3. Techstream:
      1. Check the FR system solenoid (SLAFR Solenoid Current, SLRFR Solenoid Current, Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC1), Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC2)).
        • Select "SLAFR Solenoid Current". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
        NOTE: Do not depress the brake pedal.

        HINT:

        It takes approximately 35 seconds to complete the check.

      If incorrect, troubleshoot the brake system (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).

    4. Intelligent tester:
      1. Check the FL system solenoid (SLAFL CUR, SLRFL CUR, SMC1, SMC2).
        • Select "SLAFL CUR". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
      2. Techstream:
        1. Check the FL system solenoid (SLAFL Solenoid Current, SLRFL Solenoid Current, Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC1), Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC2)).
        • Select "SLAFL Solenoid Current". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
        NOTE: Do not depress the brake pedal.

        HINT:

        It takes approximately 35 seconds to complete the check.

      1. Check the RR system solenoid (SLARR CUR, SLRRR CUR, SMC1, SMC2).
        • Select "SLARR CUR". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
    6. Techstream:
      1. Check the RR system solenoid (SLARR Solenoid Current, SLRRR Solenoid Current, Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC1), Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC2)).
        • Select "SLARR Solenoid Current". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
        NOTE: Do not depress the brake pedal.

        HINT:

        It takes approximately 35 seconds to complete the check.

      1. Check the RL system solenoid (SLARL Solenoid Current, SLRRL Solenoid Current, Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC1), Electronically Controlled Brake System Solenoid (SMC2)).
        • Select "SLARL Solenoid Current". Press "-->" and check the output voltage.
        NOTE: Do not depress the brake pedal.

        HINT:

        It takes approximately 35 seconds to complete the check.

      If incorrect, troubleshoot the brake system (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).

    9. Check the changeover solenoid valves (SMC1, SMC2).
      1. Intelligent tester:

        Select and enter "ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM INVALID" to prohibit the brake control.

      2. Techstream:

        Select and enter "Electronically Controlled Brake system Invalid" to prohibit the brake control.

      3. Check that the brake control warning light comes on.
      4. Check the output voltage by depressing the pedal.

        Standard voltage: 

        Difference in output voltage between "MAS CYL PRESS 1" and "FR W/C SENS" is less than 0.4 V. 

        Difference in output voltage between "MAS CYL PRESS 2" and "FL W/C SENS" is less than 0.4 V. 

      5. Press the return key on the intelligent tester or Techstream and cancel brake control prohibition (ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM INVALID).
  2. CHECK PRESSURE SENSOR OPERATION 
    1. Check the battery voltage.

      Standard voltage: 11 to 14 V (during engine stop) 

    2. Connect the hydro booster pressure gauge and pedal effort gauge.

      1. Install a hydro LSPV gauge (SST) and brake pedal effort gauge.

        SST 09709-29018 

      2. Bleed air from the hydro booster pressure gauge.
      3. Move the shift lever to the P position. Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3 with the parking brake applied.
      4. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      5. Clear the DTC (see DTC CHECK/CLEAR  ).
    3. Check the wheel cylinder pressure sensor and master pressure sensor.
      1. Turn on the intelligent tester. Select "MAS CYL PRESS 1", "MAS CYL PRESS 2", "FR W/C SENS", "FL W/C SENS" and "RR W/C SENS", "RL W/C SENS".
      2. Turn on the Techstream. Select "Voltage of Master Cylinder Sensor", "Voltage of Master Cylinder Sensor 2", "FR Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor", "FL Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor" and "RR Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor", "RL Wheel Cylinder Pressure Sensor".
      3. Check the brake pedal effort gauge, hydro booster pressure gauge reading, and output pressure voltage.

      If incorrect, troubleshoot the brake system (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).

    4. Check the accumulator pressure sensor.
      1. Move the shift lever to the P position. Apply the parking brake and connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
      2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
      3. Turn on the intelligent tester or Techstream. Select the Accumulator Pressure Sensor ("ACC PRESS SENS").
      4. Temporarily operate the pump motor by depressing the brake pedal 4 or 5 times.
      5. After confirming that the pump motor stops, check the pressure output voltage.

        Standard voltage: 2.6 to 3.8 V 

        If incorrect, troubleshoot the brake system (see PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE ).
