Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the Intelligent tester or Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
    1. Allow the engine to idle.
    2. Check for exhaust gas leak around the HO2S.

OK: No leak from the HO2S.

    NG: REPAIR LEAK

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  2. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST BY INTELLIGENT TESTER OR TECHSTREAM (02 SENSOR VOLTAGE)

    1. Warm up the engine.
    2. Allow the engine to idle.
    3. Connect the Intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
    4. Turn the tester ON.
    5. Enter the following menus:
      1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / A/F CONTROL.
      2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor.
    6. Check the O2S B1 S2 (O2S B2 S2) values when the A/F CONTROL (Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor) is -12.5% (Lean fuel-trim).
    7. Check the O2S B1 S2 (O2S B2 S2) values when the A/F CONTROL (Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor) is 25% (Rich fuel-trim).

      Standard voltage

      02 SENSOR VOLTAGE

      A/F CONTROL (Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor) O2S B1 S2 (O2S B2 S2)
      -12.5% Less than 0.2 V
      25% More than 0.8 V

NG: REPLACE HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (See  REMOVAL  )

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP

  3. CHECK DTC
    1. Clear DTC (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    2. Turn the engine switch off.
    3. Disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait for 1 minute (see PRECAUTION ).
    4. Connect the battery negative terminal (see PRECAUTION ).
    5. Start the engine.

    6. Perform the drive pattern.
      1. Warm up the engine.
      2. Accelerate the vehicle until 50 mph (80 km/h) and stop the vehicle.
      3. Drive the vehicle by 35 to 50 mph (60 to 80 km/h) for 5 minutes or more.
    7. Connect the Intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
    8. Turn the tester ON.
    9. Enter the following menus:
      1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
      2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    10. Check DTC.

      OK: P0606 is not present.

NG: REPLACE ECM (See  REMOVAL  )

OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  )
