Inspection Procedure

  1. READ VALUE OF DATA LIST (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and push the tester main switch ON.
    3. Enter the following menus:
      1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / OBD/MOBD / ECT / DATA LIST.
      2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / ECT / Data List.
    4. Read the value displayed on the tester.
    5. Crank the engine.
    6. Read the value displayed on the tester.

      OK 

      Intelligent tester 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Display Condition Standard
      STARTER SIG Engine switch on (IG) OFF
      STARTER SIG Engine is cranking ON

      Techstream 

      TESTER DISPLAY AND CONDITION CHART

      Tester Display Condition Standard
      Starter Signal Engine switch on (IG) OFF
      Starter Signal Engine is cranking ON

    NG: Go to step   4 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. CHECK TCM (STA VOLTAGE)

    1. Disconnect the A12 and E5 TCM connectors.
    2. Measure the voltage of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard voltage 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A12-3(STA)-E5-7(E1) Always Below 2 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (TCM - ST RELAY) 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. REPLACE TCM 
    1. Replace the TCM (see REMOVAL  ).

    NEXT: PERFORM AT REGISTRATION (See  REGISTRATION   ) 

  4. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH

    1. Disconnect the E49 park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the park/neutral position switch when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4 (B) - 5 (L) Shift lever position P Below 1 Ω
      4(B)-5(L) Shift lever position N Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH (See  ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION   ) 

    OK: CHECK CRANKING HOLDING FUNCTION CIRCUIT  (See CRANKING HOLDING FUNCTION CIRCUIT )
