Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY
- REMOVE DRIVE BELT, FAN AND FLUID COUPLING ASSEMBLY, FAN SHROUD AND RADIATOR RESERVOIR
- Remove the drive belt, fan and fluid coupling assembly, fan shroud and radiator reservoir (see REMOVAL ).
- DISCONNECT CONNECTOR
- Release the lock and disconnect the transmission wire connector.
- Disconnect the 2 transmission wire connectors.
- Separate the connector clamp.
- REMOVE TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER BOOT
- Remove the transfer shift lever knob.
- Remove the upper console panel (see REMOVAL ).
- Remove the 4 bolts and transfer shift lever boot.
- REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
- Remove the front No. 1 and No. 2 under covers.
- REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE
- Remove the front exhaust pipes (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT (see REMOVAL )
- REMOVE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT (see REMOVAL )
- DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT TRANSMISSION CONTROL ROD
- Remove the clip and pin and disconnect the shift control rod.
- DISCONNECT TRANSFER SHIFT LEVER
- Remove the nut and disconnect the transfer shift lever rod.
Torque: 12 N*m (122 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)
- Remove the nut and disconnect the transfer shift lever rod.
- DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS
- Disconnect the 3 connectors.
- Remove the 3 clamps from the transmission unit and disconnect the transmission wire.
- REMOVE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
- Remove bolt and the hole plug.
- Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
- Hold the crankshaft pulley nut with a wrench, and remove the 6 bolts.
- DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE
- Using SST, loosen the 2 union nuts.
SST 09023-12701
- Remove the bolt and clamp.
- Remove the 2 union nuts and disconnect the 2 oil cooler tubes.
- Using SST, loosen the 2 union nuts.
- DISCONNECT GROUND CABLE
- Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.
- REMOVE CROSSMEMBER AND TRANSFER CASE PROTECTOR
- Support the transmission with a jack.
- Remove the 3 bolts and transfer case protector.
- Remove the 8 bolts, 2 nuts and crossmember.
- REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR REAR
- Remove the 4 bolts and mounting insulator.
- REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
- Lower the rear end of the transmission unit.
- Remove the transmission wire clamp bolt.
- Remove the 10 bolts and the transmission unit.
- REMOVE WIRE HARNESS AND HOSE
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Release the lock and disconnect the connector.
- Disconnect the 5 connectors.
- Disconnect the 6 connector clamps.
- Disconnect the 5 hoses and remove the wire harness and hose.
- REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY
- Remove the transfer (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
