Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Lexus IS F. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When the distance control ECU is replaced with a new one, initialization must be performed (see INSTALLATION  ).
  1. INSPECT STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY
    1. Remove the steering pad (See STEERING PAD ).
    2. Disconnect the k1 connector from the spiral cable.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      k1-4 (DIST) - k1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch ON Below 2.5 Ω
k1-4 (DIST) - k1-6 (ECC) Distance control switch OFF 10 kΩ or higher

NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY  (See STEERING PAD SWITCH )

    OK: Go to next step

  2. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE
NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may cause airbag deployment. Be sure to read the article shown in the brackets.

    HINT.

    1. Remove the spiral cable (See SPIRAL CABLE ).
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
k1-4 (DIST) - J24-11 (DIST) The spiral cable position is center Below 1 Ω
The spiral cable position is 2.5 rotations to the left
The spiral cable position is 2.5 rotations to the right
k1-6 (ECC) - J24-2 (ECC) The spiral cable position is center Below 1 Ω
The spiral cable position is 2 5 rotations to the left
The spiral cable position is 2.5 rotations to the right

      HINT:

The spiral cable makes a maximum of approximately 5 rotations.

NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE  (See SPIRAL CABLE )

    OK: Go to next step

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - DISTANCE CONTROL ECU, BODY GROUND)
    1. Disconnect the distance control ECU connector
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J24-11 (DIST) - J17-16 (MODE) Always Below 1 Ω
J24-11 (DIST) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      J24-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step

  4. INSPECT DISTANCE CONTROL ECU
    1. Reconnect the distance control ECU connector.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
J17-16 (MODE) - Body ground Distance control switch ON 0 to 2 V
Distance control switch OFF 11 to 14 V
