Fail-Safe Chart

  1. Constant speed control mode and vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: 

    If the following conditions are detected while the dynamic radar cruise control system is in operation, the system clears the stored vehicle speed in the ECM and cancels the dynamic radar cruise control operation.

    Vehicle Condition Auto Cancel Condition Fail-safe Deactivation Condition
    • CRUISE main indicator light blinks
    • Master warning light comes on
    • "Check Cruise System" is displayed
    • "Pong" warning sound is heard
    • There is an open or short in the stop light switch circuit
    • There is a problem with the vehicle speed signal
    • There is a problem with the throttle position sensor and the motor
    Turn the cruise control main switch on again
  2. Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: 

    If the following conditions are detected while the dynamic radar cruise control system is in operation, the system clears the stored vehicle speed in the ECM and cancels the dynamic radar cruise control operation.

    • CRUISE main indicator light blinks
    • Master warning light comes on
    • "Check Cruise System" is displayed
    • "Pong" warning sound is heard
    • There is a problem with the millimeter wave radar sensor
    • The beam axis of the millimeter wave radar sensor deviates
    Turn the cruise control main switch on again
  3. Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: 

    If the following conditions are detected while the dynamic radar cruise control system is in operation, the system maintains the stored vehicle speed in the ECM and cancels the dynamic radar cruise control operation.

    Vehicle Condition Auto Cancel Condition Fail-safe Deactivation Condition
    • Master warning light comes on
    • "Clean Radar Sensor" is displayed
    • "Pong" warning sound is heard
    There is dirt on the millimeter wave radar sensor Recover from the condition on left (RESUME operation is possible after recovery)
    • Master warning light comes on
    • "Cruise not available" is displayed
    • "Pong" warning sound is heard
    • The wiper switch is in HI position
    • The ECT-SNOW switch is on
    • The millimeter wave radar sensor is least sensitive because of bad weather such as rain, fog, snow and sandstorms
    • Recover from the condition on left (RESUME operation is possible after recovery)
    • Turn the cruise control main switch on again
  4. Constant speed control mode and vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: 

    If the following conditions are detected while the dynamic radar cruise control system is in operation, the system clears the stored vehicle speed and cancels the dynamic radar cruise control operation.

    HINT:

    In the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the stored vehicle speed in the ECM is maintained.

    FAIL-SAFE DEACTIVATION CONDITION

    CRUISE main indicator light goes off
    • The vehicle speed is less than the low speed limit (approx. 40 km/h (25 mph)) while the vehicle is running with the cruise control system in operation
    • The vehicle speed is less than the stored vehicle speed by 16 km/h (9.9 mph) or more while the vehicle is running with the cruise control system in operation
    • Turn the cruise control main switch on again*1
    • Push the cruise control main switch to +RES*2
    HINT:
    • *1: During constant speed control mode
    • *2: During vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode
