INSTALLATION (From 8/2009): Installation

  1. INSTALL STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and steering column assembly.

      *1 Matchmark
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

  2. INSTALL STEERING POST ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check that the 2 bushings are securely installed to the steering column assembly.

      *1 Bushing

      HINT: 

      If the bushings are missing or damaged, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

    2. Install the steering post assembly with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Bolt 

      Torque: 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf) 

      Nut 

      Torque: 25 N*m (255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf) 

    3. Engage the 2 wire harness clamps.

    4. Connect the connectors and engage the wire harness clamps to the steering post assembly.
    5. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly.

      HINT: 

      As shown in the illustration, securely return the lock lever to its original position to connect the connector.

    6. Connect the connector to the power steering ECU assembly.

  3. CONNECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft assembly and power steering link assembly.

      *1 Matchmark
    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 35 N*m (360 kgf*cm, 26 ft.*lbf) 

    3. Install the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly to the steering column hole shield.

    4. Tighten the bolt.
  4. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  5. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using pliers, expand the clamp.

      *1 Clamp
      *2 Claw
    2. While holding the clamp expanded, install the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly to the steering column assembly and engage the claw.
    3. Return the clamp to its original position.
    4. Connect the connectors to the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  6. INSTALL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the claw to install the upper steering column cover.

  7. INSTALL LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Engage the 2 claws to install the lower steering column cover to the upper steering column cover.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

    2. Install the 3 screws.

      Torque: 2.0 N*m (20 kgf*cm, 18 in.*lbf) 

    3. Engage the 4 clips and 2 guides to install the instrument panel cluster finish panel to the upper steering column cover.

  8. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSEMBLY 

    HINT: 

    Refer to the instructions for Installation of the brake pedal. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  9. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  10. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 5
  11. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  See step  9
  12. INSTALL STEERING PAD 

    HINT: 

    Refer to the instructions for Installation of the steering pad. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  13. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL LH 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  14. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  15. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:
    • Make sure that the cable has been disconnected from the battery terminal for at least 2 seconds before reconnecting the cable.
    • Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal with the front wheels facing straight ahead.
    • Reset the auto tilt away function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS .
    • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .
  16. INSPECT STEERING PAD  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 5
  17. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Inspect the SRS warning light. Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM .
