Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Warning Light Malfunction: Procedure

  1. CHECK FOR DTC 
    1. Check for DTCs.
      RESULT:

      Result Proceed to
      DTC does not occur A
      CAN communication system DTC output occurs B
      Airbag system DTC output occurs C
      Occupant classification system DTC output occurs D

    A: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT FUSE (ECU-IG) 
    1. Remove the ECU-IG fuse from the cowl side junction block RH.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ECU-IG fuse Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPLACE FUSE 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Operate Techstream according to the steps on the display and select "ACTIVE TEST".
      COMBINATION METER:

      Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note
      Front Passenger Side Seat Belt Remind Passenger seat belt warning light ON or OFF -

      HINT: 

      *: Confirm that the vehicle is stopped with the engine idling.

      RESULT:

      Result Proceed to
      Passenger seat belt warning light condition cannot be switched by "ACTIVE TEST" (w/o Multi-display) A
      Passenger seat belt warning light condition cannot be switched by "ACTIVE TEST" (w/ Multi-display) B
      Passenger seat belt warning light condition can be switched by "ACTIVE TEST" C

    A: Go to next step 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the J54 panel connector.

    2. Disconnect the J35 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Standard voltage 

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J54-13 (PBEW) - J35-3 (PBLT) Always Below 1 Ω
      J54-8 (E) - Body ground
      J54-13 (PBEW) or J35-3 (PBLT) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J54-4 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the integration control and panel. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] .
    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal 4 (IG+), and the negative (-) battery lead to terminals 13 (PBEW) and 8 (E).
    3. Check that the passenger seat belt warning light comes on.

      OK

      Passenger seat belt warning light comes on.

    NG → See step   15 

    OK → See step   12 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLOCK - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the J92 clock connector.

    2. Disconnect the J35 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance and voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J92-12 (PBEW) - J35-3 (PBLT) Always Below 1 Ω
      J92-3 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      J92-12 (PBEW) or J35-3 (PBLT) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      J92-15 (IG+) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. CHECK CLOCK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the J92 clock connector.

    2. Connect the positive (+) lead to terminal 15 (IG+), and the negative (-) battery lead to terminals 12 (PBEW) and 3 (E).
    3. Check that the passenger seat belt warning light comes on.

      OK

      Passenger seat belt warning light comes on.

    NG → See step   10 

    OK → See step   16 

  8. REPLACE FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH 
    1. Temporarily replace the front seat inner belt RH with a new or normally functioning one. Refer to REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] .

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  9. CHECK PASSENGER SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT 
    1. Check that the passenger seat belt warning light operates normally. Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [08/2012 - ] .

      OK

      Passenger seat belt warning light operates normally.

    NG → See step   17 

    OK → END (FRONT SEAT INNER BELT RH IS DEFECTIVE) 

  10. REPLACE CLOCK ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] 
  11. Go to CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  PRECAUTION [08/2012 - ] 
  12. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] 
  13. Go to AIRBAG SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2012 - ] 
  14. Go to OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART [08/2012 - ] 
  15. REPLACE INTEGRATION CONTROL AND PANEL ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] 
  16. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ] 
  17. REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [08/2012 - ]
