Precaution [09/2013 - ]

WARNING:

Do not use seat accessories (such as cushions or covers) that cover the front seat. Also, do not modify or replace the upholstery of the front seat. Doing so may prevent the front passenger airbag system from activating correctly, disable the system or cause the front passenger airbag to inflate accidentally, and result in death or serious injury.

NOTE:
  • Replace the occupant classification ECU, occupant detection sensor, seat cushion cover pad, seat cushion cover and seat cushion seat heater as a 5 part set (see supply set part No.).
  • After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work. Refer to PRECAUTION [09/2013 - ] .
  1. NOTICE FOR INITIALIZATION 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal while performing repairs, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2013 - ] .

  2. INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR VEHICLE INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT 
    1. Perform zero point calibration and sensitivity check if any of the following conditions apply. Refer to INITIALIZATION [09/2013 - ] .
      • The front seat set (occupant classification ECU) is replaced.
      • The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates OFF when the front passenger seat is not occupied.
      • The vehicle is brought to the workshop for repair due to an accident or a collision.
  3. PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. When using the Techstream with the engine switch off to troubleshoot: Connect the Techstream to the vehicle, and turn a courtesy light switch on and off at 1.5 second intervals until communication between the Techstream and vehicle begins.
    2. After all DTCs are cleared, check if the trouble occurs again 6 seconds after the engine switch is turned on (IG).
