Removal [10/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Disable the auto tilt away function by changing the customize parameter (Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS [09/2014 - ] ).
      NOTE:

      Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the auto tilt away function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

      HINT: 

      Performing the above operation causes the auto tilt away function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
    3. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [10/2015 - ] ).

  3. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [10/2015 - ] )

  4. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 screws.
    2. Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column lower cover.

      NOTE:

      Do not damage the tilt and telescopic switch.

    3. Detach the 4 clips.

    4. Detach the 2 claws to remove the steering column upper cover.
  5. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Detach the 3 claws with a screwdriver. Then remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

  6. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT LOWER PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [09/2014 - ] )

  7. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 27

  8. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD w/o VGRS) 
    1. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole cover.

    2. Loosen the bolt of the steering sliding with shaft yoke closest to the vehicle interior.

    3. Remove the bolt of the power steering link and the steering sliding with shaft yoke.

    4. Slide the steering sliding with shaft yoke and place matchmarks.

    5. Disconnect the steering sliding with shaft yoke from the power steering link.
  9. DISCONNECT NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 
    1. Remove the clamp from the steering column hole cover.

    2. Remove the bolt from the steering intermediate shaft assembly.

    3. Slide the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly towards the vehicle interior and place matchmarks.

    4. Disconnect the steering intermediate shaft from the power steering link.
  10. DISCONNECT STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  11. REMOVE MAIN SHAFT LOWER DUST COVER (w/ VGRS) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  12. REMOVE STEERING ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY (w/ VGRS) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  13. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (TILT STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY WITH MOTOR) 
    1. Disconnect the connectors.
    2. Remove the brake pedal return spring.
    3. Remove the 4 nuts and steering column assembly.

  14. DISCONNECT STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the steering sliding with shaft yoke and steering column assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly.
  15. REMOVE STEERING SLIDING WITH SHAFT YOKE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD) 
    1. Remove the bolt and steering sliding with shaft yoke sub-assembly.

  16. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and steering column hole cover.
