System Description [09/2014 - ]

  1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
    1. The control of the turning angle of the rear wheels by the dynamic rear steering system is calculated by the VGRS ECU (front steering control ECU), and is actuated by the driving of the DC motor in the rear steering link assembly via the DRS ECU (rear steering control ECU).
    2. If a malfunction occurs in the dynamic rear steering system, the DRS ECU (rear steering control ECU) gradually reduces or blocks current output to the motor to ban control of the turning angle of the rear wheels.
    3. If the DRS ECU (rear steering control ECU) detects a malfunction in the dynamic rear steering system, the DRS ECU (rear steering control ECU) lights up the master warning light and indicates the warning message on the multi-information display to alert the driver of the malfunction.
  2. FUNCTIONS OF COMPONENTS
    1. Functions of dynamic rear steering system components
      Component Function
Rear Steering Link Assembly Motor Rotates to create the turning angle of the rear wheel upon receiving the signals from the rear steering control ECU.
Stroke Sensor Detects the stroke amount of the rear steering link assembly.
Motor rotation angle sensor Transmits the rotation angle of the DC motor to the rear steering control ECU.
Combination meter assembly Multi-information display Displays the warning message to inform the driver of a malfunction in the system.
Master warning light Illuminates when the warning message is displayed in the multi-information display.
DRS ECU (Rear Steering Control ECU) Drives the motor in the rear steering link assembly in accordance with a control angle signal from the front steering control ECU.
VGRS ECU (Front Steering Control ECU)
      • Calculates the target vehicle characteristics based on the signals from the steering sensor, vehicle speed and each ECU.
      • Drives the motor of the steering actuator assembly.
      • Sends the control signal to the rear steering control ECU.
