DTC P011A-62: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal Compare Failure; DTC P111A-62: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1/3 Signal Compare Failure [12/2017 - ]: Description

In vehicles equipped with a water control valve, the coolant temperature is detected in 3 locations (inlet, cylinder head and outlet) to provide appropriate coolant temperature control for operating valves.

During complete water stop in the warm-up process, the outlet engine coolant temperature sensor that was conventionally used for temperature adjustment does not perform temperature detection because there is no coolant flow. Therefore, the cylinder head engine coolant temperature sensor is used to monitor and control the temperature during water stop instead of the conventional outlet engine coolant temperature sensor. In conditions other than complete water stop in the warm-up process, the outlet engine coolant temperature sensor is used to control the coolant temperature the same as in conventional temperature adjustment.

The inlet engine coolant temperature sensor is used to improve responsiveness after warm-up.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory Note
P011A-62 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1/2 Signal Compare Failure All of the following conditions are met (2 trip detection logic):
  1. The battery voltage is 10 V or higher.
  2. 5 hours or more have elapsed since the engine stopped on the previous trip.
  3. The engine coolant temperature (for outlet side) or engine coolant temperature (for cylinder head side) is -10°C (14°F) or higher.
  4. The difference between the readings of the engine coolant temperature (for outlet side) and engine coolant temperature (for cylinder head side) is higher than 20°C (36°F).
  • Engine coolant temperature sensor (for outlet side)
  • Engine coolant temperature sensor (for cylinder head side)
