Removal [08/2020 - 08/2021]: Procedure

  1. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE 

    Refer to REMOVAL [08/2020 - 08/2021]

  2. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 46

  3. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT 
    1. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts and remove each drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

      HINT: 

      There will be one black colored drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolt.

  4. DISCONNECT VACUUM HOSE 
    1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum hose connector.

    2. Disengage the 5 clamps to disconnect the vacuum hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  5. REMOVE FLOW SHUTTING VALVE (NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS HOSE) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  6. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Slide the clip and disconnect the water by-pass hose assembly from the transmission oil cooler.

      HINT: 

      Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hose assembly and transmission oil cooler.

  7. REMOVE BREATHER PLUG HOSE 
    1. Disengage the hose clamp to disconnect the breather plug hose.

    2. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the breather plug hose from the No. 1 breather plug (ATM).
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the No. 1 breather plug (ATM).

    3. Remove the breather plug sub-assembly from the breather plug hose.

      *1 Breather Plug Sub-assembly
      *2 Breather Plug Hose
      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the breather plug sub-assembly.

  8. REMOVE STEERING GEAR HEAT INSULATOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  9. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Disengage the claw, rotate the lever and disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    3. Disengage the wire harness clamp and disconnect the vacuum switching valve (for active control engine mount system) connector.

    4. Disconnect the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly connector.

      HINT: 

      Release the lock before rotating the lock lever.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts to disconnect the wire harness from the rack and pinion power steering gear assembly.
    6. Remove the bolt.

    7. Disengage the 9 wire harness clamps to disconnect the wire harness.
    8. Remove the 2 bolts.

    9. Disengage the wire harness clamp to disconnect the wire harness from the automatic transaxle assembly.
  10. REMOVE FUEL DELIVERY GUARD 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 43

  11. REMOVE FUEL PUMP PROTECTOR 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 44

  12. INSTALL ENGINE HANGERS 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 45

  13. REMOVE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 54

  14. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the transaxle housing.

  15. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  16. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  17. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with a transmission jack.
      NOTE:

      Secure the automatic transaxle assembly to the transmission jack using a suitable adapter, such as a rope or attachment.

    2. Remove the 8 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly.

      NOTE:

      To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

  18. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts and rear No. 2 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  19. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT HEAT INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and propeller shaft heat insulator from the rear No. 2 engine mounting bracket and transfer assembly.

  20. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine mounting bracket sub-assembly from the transaxle housing.

  21. DISCONNECT OUTLET NO. 1 OIL COOLER HOSE 

    See step  12

  22. DISCONNECT INLET NO. 1 OIL COOLER HOSE

  23. REMOVE NO. 1 OIL COOLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY WITHOUT HOSE

  24. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

  25. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

  26. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the transaxle housing.

  27. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly.

    3. Remove the 4 bolts and 4 wire harness clamp brackets from the automatic transaxle case sub-assembly and transmission case side cover.

  28. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VIBRATION CONTROL RUBBER 
    1. Remove the 2 transmission vibration control rubbers from the transmission case side cover.

  29. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  30. REMOVE TRANSFER AND TRANSAXLE SETTING STUD BOLT 
    1. Using 2 nuts, remove the 4 transfer and transaxle setting stud bolts from the transaxle housing.

  31. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.
  32. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  33. INSPECT DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  34. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 

    HINT: 

    Perform this procedure only when replacement of the rear No. 2 engine mounting bracket or rear engine mounting bracket is necessary.

    1. Remove the 2 bolts and rear No. 2 engine mounting bracket from the rear engine mounting bracket.
