DTC P0115-15: Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Short to Battery or Open [12/2021 - ]: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING GTS (CHECK FOR OPEN IN WIRE HARNESS) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.

      *1 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor *2 ECM
      *a Front view of wire harness connector
      (to Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor)
      - -
    • Connect terminals 1 (E2) and 2 (THW) of the engine coolant temperature sensor connector on the wire harness side.
    • According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

      Powertrain > Engine > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Coolant Temperature

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      The value of Coolant Temperature is more than 135°C A
      None of the above conditions are met B

      HINT: 

      135°C (275°F)

    Post-procedure1

    • None

    Result: 

    REPLACE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 

    Refer to REMOVAL [12/2021 - ]

    HINT: 

    Perform "Inspection After Repair" after replacing the engine coolant temperature sensor.

    Refer to INITIALIZATION [12/2021 - ]

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR - ECM) 

    Pre-procedure1

    • Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
    • Disconnect the ECM connector.
    • Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C28-2 (THW) - C37-125 (THW) Always Below 1 Ω
      C28-1 (E2) - C37-126 (ETHW) Always Below 1 Ω
      C28-2 (THW) or C37-125 (THW) - Other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Post-procedure1

    • None

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL [12/2021 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG
