Stop and Start System does not Operate [09/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. STOP AND START SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK 
    1. Check if the stop and start system operates.

      Refer to OPERATION CHECK [09/2023 - ]

  2. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITIONS (DRIVER OPERATION) 
    1. Check if the stop and start operation conditions (driver operation) are met.
      1. The driver seat belt is fastened.
      2. The eco run cancel switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) has not been pressed. (Stop and start cancel indicator light is not illuminated)
      3. The driver door is closed.

  3. STOP AND START SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK (DRIVER OPERATION) 
    1. Ensure the stop and start operation conditions (driver operation) are met, and check if the stop and start system operates.
      1. The driver seat belt is fastened.
      2. The eco run cancel switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) has not been pressed. (Stop and start cancel indicator light is not illuminated)
      3. The driver door is closed.
    2. Check if the stop and start system operates.

  5. STOP AND START SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK (ENGINE HOOD STATE) 
    1. Close the engine hood, turn the ignition switch off, wait 30 seconds or more, then start the engine.
    2. Check if the stop and start system operates.

  6. READ VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY 
    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Vehicle Control History.

      HINT: 

      It is also possible to display vehicle control history during the Health Check, if "Store All Data" is selected.

    2. Confirm if any data relating to the problem symptoms exist in the Vehicle Control History.
    3. Read the Vehicle Control History.

  8. REPLACE STARTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Replace the starter assembly

      Refer to REMOVAL [09/2023 - ]

      HINT: 

      • When the starter assembly is replaced, "ST NO. 1 relay" must be also replaced.
      • If "Starter Operation #" displays 1000000 or more, the engine stop and start ECU must also be replaced.

        Refer to REMOVAL [09/2023 - ]

      • Clear the number of starter operations by performing "Starter Exchange" using the GTS.

        Refer to REGISTRATION [09/2023 - ]

      3. Automatic transmission system: Powertrain / Transmission / Trouble Codes.
      4. Electronically controlled brake system: Chassis / Brake Booster / Trouble Codes.
    2. Read the DTCs.

  11. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITIONS (MULTI-INFORMATION DISPLAY) 
    1. After resolving the problem indicated by the stop and start system operation restriction message on the multi-information display, check if the stop and start system operates.

      HINT: 

      Depending on the vehicle, some of the items are not displayed.

      "Non-Dedicated Battery" A non-specified battery for the stop and start system may have been installed.
      (If a non-specified battery is installed, operation of the stop and start system may be restricted.)

        (Wait approximately 5 to 60 minutes for the refresh charge to complete, which may occur during periodic charging after the battery was replaced or the cable was disconnected from the battery terminal.)

    1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List.
    2. Check if any Data List item in one of the following tables is indicating a value that prohibits engine stop, and proceed to the indicated step.

      HINT: 

      • If no Data List items are currently prohibiting stop and start operation, perform troubleshooting for the Data List item with the highest number of prohibitions.
      • Depending on the vehicle, some of the items are not displayed.

  15. CHECK VEHICLE CONDITIONS (VEHICLE OPERATION) 
    1. Based on the respective Data List item, ensure the operation permission conditions are met.

      STOP&START OPERATING PERMISSION (A/C)

      Item to Check or Action to be Taken Conditions Required for Permission
      • Set the air conditioning system temperature to be approximately equivalent to the ambient temperature.
      • Front defroster is turned off
      • Turn off the blower switch and A/C switch, and then confirm that Data List item "Stop&Start Operating Permission (A/C)" indicates a value which permits engine stop by the stop and start system.
      • Confirm the air conditioning system conditions required for the stop and start system to operate are set.
      		 Any of the following conditions are met:
      • Defogger Switch: OFF, and Blower Switch: OFF
      • With blower switch on, evaporator temperature below threshold (varies depending on each temperature, humidity, amount of solar radiation, etc.) and after certain period of time since engine restarted by stop and start system (threshold varies depending on idling stop conditions)
      Heater:
      One of the following conditions are met:
      • Blower Switch: OFF
      • Blower Switch: ON, and A/C Switch: OFF

        (Ambient temperature higher than 10°C (50°F), engine coolant temperature higher than 55°C (131°F), or vehicle cabin temperature higher than -5°C (23°F) lower than the set temperature)

      • Blower Switch: ON, and A/C Switch: OFF

        (after certain period of time since engine restarted by stop and start system)

      • Malfunction in Air Conditioning System is detected
      Cooler:
      One of the following conditions are met:
      • Blower Switch: OFF
