Boost Pressure Test
- connect a 0-15 psi (0-1 kg/cm2
) pressure gauge with a "T" connector in the altitude/boost compensator line at the base of the intake plenum. See Fig 1
. Under a full load condition (brakes applied and drive wheels off the ground), briefly run the engine at 2500 RPM.
CAUTION: DO NOT operate engine under full load condition for more than 30 seconds. After test, place transmission in "NEUTRAL" and run at 1000 RPM for 60 seconds to cool transmission.
- If the boost pressure stabilized at 10.6-12.6 psi (.75-.89 kg/cm2 ), the system is okay. If not, check the wastegate diaphragm, turbocharger, safety pressure regulator, and hoses. See FORD DIESEL TURBOCHARGER article in this section.
