Glow Plug Module Test

  1. With a voltmeter or test light, check for power in the large red wire connected to the glow plug module. Also, check for power across the 80 amp fuse located on the face of the glow plug module.
  2. Connect one lead of an ohmmeter to ground and the other to the NTC terminal pin located on the face of the glow plug module. See Figure . The resistance will vary with coolant temperature, as shown in table.
GLOW PLUG MODULE RESISTANCE (PIN NTC)

    Temperature: °F (°C) Resistance: Ohms
    -4 (-20) 5466-7426
    32 (0) 2147-2747
    68 (20) 930-1150
    104 (40) 448-528
    194 (90) 96-108
    248 (120) 45-51
  3. To verify that the glow plug module is grounded, connect the ohmmeter lead to pin 31. Continuity should be present. Connect voltmeter to pin 15. With ignition at "ON" and "START", battery voltage should be present. Connect voltmeter to pin 50 and place ignition switch in the "START" position. Battery voltage should be present.
  4. If all of the check points respond correctly and the glow plug system will not operate properly, replace module. After replacing the module, recheck the system operation.
