Boost Pressure Test

  1. connect a 0-15 psi (0-1 kg/cm2 ) pressure gauge with a "T" connector in the altitude/boost compensator line at the base of the intake plenum. See Fig 1 . Under a full load condition (brakes applied and drive wheels off the ground), briefly run the engine at 2500 RPM.

    CAUTION: DO NOT  operate engine under full load condition for more than 30 seconds. After test, place transmission in "NEUTRAL" and run at 1000 RPM for 60 seconds to cool transmission.
  2. If the boost pressure stabilized at 10.6-12.6 psi (.75-.89 kg/cm2 ), the system is okay. If not, check the wastegate diaphragm, turbocharger, safety pressure regulator, and hoses. See FORD DIESEL TURBOCHARGER article in this section.
