Glow Plug Operation Test

  1. Connect one lead of voltmeter or test light to glow plug connector and the other lead to ground. Turn ignition "ON". The "WAIT" light will come on to verify glow plug operation.
    NOTE: The "WAIT" light indicates proper preglow function of the glow plugs when the engine is cold. The indicator will vary depending on the coolant temperature.
  2. Glow plugs will operate for 8-13 seconds after "WAIT" light turns off. Turn ignition to "START" to verify that glow plugs again turn on when engine is cranking. Glow plugs will briefly remain on (afterglow function) once engine is running.
  3. Place test light or voltmeter lead on glow plug module terminal LA2. See Figure . If there are any defective glow plugs, the voltage will NOT be present.
