Test D: Auto-Dimming Function Inoperative

  1. Power Supply To Mirror Check  - Turn ignition on. Access inside mirror 7-pin connector. Using a test light, check Red/Yellow wire for voltage at connector. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, check for open in Red/Yellow wire. Repair wire as necessary. Retest system.
  2. Ground Circuit Check  - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and Black wire at mirror 7-pin connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  3. Automatic Mirror Dimming Check  - Ensure gear selector is in Park. Cover ambient light sensor located on back side of mirror, with a dark cloth. Shine a flashlight on the glare sensor located on the reflective side of the mirror. The inside mirror and the driver's outside mirror should darken. If the mirrors do not operate as specified, go to next step. If mirror operates as specified, system is okay.
  4. Circuit Check (Black/Pink Wire)  - Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe Black/Pink wire at 7-pin connector. If test light comes on, check Transmission Range (TR) sensor. See TR SENSOR TEST. If test light does not come on, replace inside rear view mirror. Retest system.
  5. TR Sensor Test  - Ensure Transmission Range (TR) Sensor connector and terminals are connected and in good condition. Ensure shift linkage adjustment in Overdrive. Turn ignition off. Apply parking brake and place transmission in neutral. Using TR Sensor Alignment Tool (MLPS Alignment Tool T92P-700 10-AH), check alingment. If sensor is aligned, go to next step. If sensor is not aligned, adjust as necessary, clear codes and retest. Ensure TR sensor is disconnected. Connect adapter cable (007-00 127) to sensor and TR/MLP-B tester. Using procedures in tester manual, check resistance of sensor in all gear positions. See TR SENSOR TESTING TABLE. If sensor checks okay, go to next step. If sensor tests bad, replace TR sensor and retest. Using procedures in tester manual, check Reverse/Backup circuits of sensor in all positions. See REVERSE/BACKUP TESTING TABLE. If sensor tests okay, check wiring and retest. If sensor tests bad, replace TR sensor and retest.
