Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: Before beginning self-diagnostics, perform TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
NOTE: After any repairs are complete, ensure all component are properly installed and all harness connectors are connected properly and repeat data link diagnostic test.

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC), located beneath instrument panel. Using NGS tester, perform data link diagnostics test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article. If NGS tester responds with CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, repair module communications fault. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Front Electronics Module (FEM), perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH FRONT ELECTRONICS MODULE (FEM)  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Rear Electronics Module (REM), perform TEST B: NO COMMUNICATION WITH REAR ELECTRONICS MODULE (REM)  under SYSTEM TESTS. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for Driver's Door Module, perform TEST C: NO COMMUNICATION WITH DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE (DDM)  under SYSTEM TESTS.

If NGS tester responds with SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous DTCs. Erase continuous DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform DDM, FEM and REM self-test. Perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See FRONT ELECTRONICS MODULE (FEM) DTC INDEX  , REAR ELECTRONICS MODULE (REM) DTC INDEX  and/or DRIVER'S DOOR MODULE (DDM) DTC INDEX  table. Codes listed in these tables are only for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX  table under SYSTEM TESTS.

(2) Using NGS tester, retrieve and document continuous DTCs. Clear all DTCs. Perform Front Electronics Module (FEM) self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace FEM.

(2) Using NGS tester, retrieve and document continuous DTCs. Clear all DTCs. Perform Rear Electronics Module (REM) self-test. If DTC B1342 is retrieved again, replace REM.
