Hydraulic Control Unit: Removal

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  3. Remove the battery acid shield.
  4. Disconnect the anti-lock brake control module electrical connectors.
    1. Disconnect the pump motor electrical connector.
    2. Release the anti-lock brake control module electrical connector locking tab.
    3. Disconnect the anti-lock brake module electrical connector.

  5. WARNING: Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately.
    CAUTION: Brake fluid is harmful to painted and plastic surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled onto a painted or plastic surface, immediately wash it with water.
    NOTE: Plug each open port to prevent brake fluid from spilling.

  6. Disconnect the hydraulic brake lines.
    1. Disconnect the inlet hydraulic brake lines.
    2. Disconnect the outlet hydraulic brake lines.
  7. Remove the hydraulic control unit (HCU).
    1. Remove the bolts.
    2. Remove the HCU from the alignment grommet.
