No communication with the audio unit - except navigation
  • J1850 communication network.
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Central junction box (CJB)
 Go To PINPOINT TEST A  .
The audio unit is inoperative/does not operate correctly - except navigation
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
    • 1 (30A).
    • 104 (40A).
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse(s):
    • 24 (5A).
    • 33 (15A).
    • 18 (7.5A).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST B  .
The audio unit does not operate correctly - display is frozen or no graphics are displayed, navigation only
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Navigation system module
 REFER to NAVIGATION SYSTEM .
The cassette player is inoperative
  • Audio unit.
 REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation.
The compact disc (CD/DJ) changer is inoperative/does not operate correctly
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
    • 1 (30A).
    • 104 (40A).
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 33 (15A).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • CD changer.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST C  .
The audio unit does not display the compact disc (CD) changer information
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
    • 1 (30A).
    • 104 (40A).
  • Central junction box (CJB) fuse 33 (15A).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • CD changer.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST D  .
Poor reception
  • Antenna.
  • Antenna module.
  • Circuitry.
  • Antenna connections.
  • Noise suppression equipment.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST E  .
Radio reception is poorer with the defroster activated
  • Defroster grid
 INSPECT the defroster grid for damaged grid lines. REPAIR as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, Go To PINPOINT TEST E  .
Poor quality/distorted sound from one or more speakers (not all speakers) - navigation
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST F  .
Poor quality/distorted sound from all speakers
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation.
No sound from one or more of the speakers
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Antenna system.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST G  .
No sound from all speakers
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST G  .
Loud popping sound when cycling the ignition switch
  • Audio unit.
  • Subwoofer enable line shorted.
  • Subwoofer input line shorted.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST H  .
The subwoofer is inoperative-except navigation
  • Circuitry.
  • Subwoofer.
  • Subwoofer amplifier.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST I  .
The audio unit illumination is inoperative
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
 REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER & PANEL ILLUMINATION .
The auxiliary audio control is inoperative - steering wheel controls
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Steering wheel control (SWC) switches.
  • Speed control servo.
  • Clockspring.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST J  .
The auxiliary audio control is inoperative/does not operate correctly - rear auxiliary audio controls
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Rear auxiliary control switches.
  • Auxiliary audio module.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST K  .
Poor quality/distorted sound from one or more speakers (not all speakers) - vehicle navigation radio (VNR)
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio amplifier.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST L  .
Poor quality/distorted sound from all speakers - navigation
  • Audio amplifier.
  • Audio unit.
 If the audio unit illuminates, REFER to NAVIGATION SYSTEM .
If the audio unit does not illuminate, REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. REFER to AUDIO UNIT . TEST the system for normal operation.
No sound from one or more of the speakers (not all speakers) - navigation
  • Speaker(s).
  • Circuitry.
  • Audio unit.
  • Audio amplifier.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST L  .
No sound from all speakers - navigation
  • Audio unit.
 If the audio unit illuminates. REFER to NAVIGATION SYSTEM .
If the audio unit does not illuminate REMOVE the audio unit and SEND it to an authorized audio system repair facility. TEST the system for normal operation.
The subwoofer is inoperative - navigation
  • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
    • 1 (30A).
    • 104 (40A).
  • Circuitry.
  • Subwoofer speaker.
  • Audio amplifier.
  • Audio unit.
 Go To PINPOINT TEST M  .
