In-Vehicle Repair: Flexplate: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: Engine balancing is not required. Balance weights should not be installed on the new flywheel.
    NOTE: Special nuts are used for installation. Do not use standard nuts.
  1. Install the flexplate.
  2. Install the special tool.
  3. Tighten the nuts in the sequence shown in three stages:
    • Stage 1: Tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb-ft).
    • Stage 2: Tighten to 80 N.m (59 lb-ft).
    • Stage 3: Tighten to 112 N.m (83 lb-ft).

  4. Install the transmission. For additional information, refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - 5R44E & 5R55E .
