Cylinder Head: Disassembly

  1. Install the special tool between the valve spring coils to protect the exhaust valve stem seal from damage.

  2. Using the special tool, compress the exhaust valve spring. Remove the exhaust valve spring retainer keys.

  3. NOTE: Valve stem seals should be visually inspected if new seals are not installed.

  4. Remove the valve spring retainer, the valve spring and the valve stem seal.
  5. Remove the valve from the cylinder head.
  6. Repeat the above 4 steps and remove all of the exhaust valve and spring assemblies.
  7. Install the special tool between the valve spring coils to protect the intake valve stem seal from damage.

  8. Using the special tool, compress the intake valve spring. Remove the intake valve spring retainer keys.

  9. NOTE: Valve stem seals should be visually inspected if new seals are not installed.

  10. Remove the valve spring retainer, the valve spring and the valve stem seal.
  11. Remove the valve from the cylinder head.
  12. Repeat the preceding 4 steps to remove all of the intake valve and spring assemblies.
  13. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt and washer.

  14. Remove the 2 bolts and the tensioner.
  15. Remove the secondary camshaft spacer, washer and bolt.
  16. Remove the secondary camshaft sprockets and chain assembly.

  17. Remove the 12 outboard camshaft bearing cap bolts and bearing caps.
  18. Remove the 19 inboard camshaft bearing cap bolts and bearing caps.
  19. Remove the camshafts.
