Vehicle Speed Sensor: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: Obtain audio anti-theft access code before disconnecting battery cables.

- Disconnect negative battery cable.
- Remove the vehicle speedometer sensor from the transaxle.
- Turn the gear and verify that magnetic resistance is felt (a slight sticking).

View: Vehicle Speedometer Sensor Test Connections:

- Connect a suitable AC/DC volt meter and set the meter to the AC 5 Volt range.
- Measure voltage across terminals while rotating driven gear.
- If meter indicates other than 0.0 Volts, sensor is OK. If there is no voltage reading check sensor continuity.
- Use a suitable ohm meter connected to sensor terminals A & B.

Resistance: Approx. 290 Ohms @ 20°C (68°F)

- Replace the vehicle speedometer sensor if it fails the above tests.
