Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

IDLE SWITCH

Idle Switch Inspection:

1. Turn ignition OFF and make sure throttle valve is in closed position.
2. Unplug sensor connector.
3. Check that continuity exista across sensor terminals C and D. If not, adjust sensor.
4. Insert a 0.016 in (0.4 mm) feeler gauge between stopper and throttle lever. Verify that no continuity exists across terminals C and D.
5. If continuity exists, adjust sensor.

VARIABLE RESISTOR

1. Remove PCME and connect Mazda SST, or aftermarket equivalent. Set tester to position 2M.
2. Turn ignition ON. Rotate throttle link by hand and verify that voltage is 0.1 - 1.0V at closed throttle and 3.1 - 4.5V at wide open throttle.
3. If not as specified, adjust sensor.
