Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal
- Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
- Ensure vehicle front wheels are in straight-ahead position and steering column shaft alignment mark is at 12 o'clock position. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Unscrew tilt lever for removal of lower steering column shroud, if equipped. Remove steering column upper and lower shrouds.
- Turn ignition lock cylinder to RUN position. Insert 1/8" (3 mm) punch into hole under lock cylinder. While pressing retaining pin, pull ignition lock cylinder from steering column. Pull key warning chime contact out from lock cylinder casting.
- Remove ground wire eyelet bolt from steering column bend bracket hole. Remove 2 clockspring wiring harness clips from steering column casting. Disconnect clockspring electrical connectors. Release clockspring retaining clips and remove clockspring. See Figure .
