Transmission Range Sensor

NOTE: It may be necessary to remove the thermostat housing to gain access to the Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
  1. Place the vehicle in Neutral. Disconnect the battery cables. Remove the battery and tray. Disconnect the breather tube and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor harness connector. See Fig 1 . Remove the intake tube and air cleaner cover. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  2. NOTE: Ensure the transaxle is in the Neutral position.
  3. If necessary, remove thermostat housing. See Fig 2 . Disconnect the Transmission Range (TR) sensor (3) harness connector (1) and loosen bolts (2). See Fig 3 .
  4. Using the Transmission Range Sensor Alignment Tool (307-351), align the TR sensor. See Fig 4 . Tighten the TR sensor bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Remove the transmission range sensor alignment tool. Connect the TR sensor harness connector. Install the thermostat housing. Install the air cleaner assembly. Install the intake tube and air cleaner cover. Connect the breather tube and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.
  6. NOTE: Before installing the battery tray check the vent tube hose for any obstructions, kinks, or incorrect routing position.
  7. Install the battery and tray. Connect the battery cables. Check the correct operation with parking brake control engaged. The engine should start in Park or Neutral positions only. Back-up lights should be active in the Reverse position only.
